This is a really exciting time for readers, when they are just starting to be able to complete whole books with complex stories all on their own. Most kids this age are still very into picture books—and that is a good thing. Because picture books are written for adults to read to children, the vocabulary and concepts are often more complex than an early reader. So mix it up and include all kinds of books in your child’s library. Here are some of my favorite early readers and chapter books for beginning readers.
